Terms of Service

These terms apply to the Loupewire browser extension (the "Extension") and to the website at loupewire.github.io (the "Website"). "We" means the people who publish Loupewire under the loupewire organization on GitHub. By installing the Extension or using the Website you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not install or use them.

1. What Loupewire is

The Extension captures the HTTP traffic the browser makes from every tab in one window, applies header and block rules you define, masks values matching your patterns, and exports the capture as HAR or JSON with masking applied. It observes and edits requests the browser makes on its own; it does not compose requests. It does not capture response bodies, because the browser API it rests on does not provide them and the alternatives would break the privacy promise the Extension makes.

The Extension is currently offered free of charge. A paid tier that removes limits may be introduced later; if it is, these terms will be updated in the same release, together with a refund policy.

2. License

We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and use the Extension in a Chromium-based browser, subject to these terms. You may not redistribute, sell, rent or sublicense the Extension, or remove any notice in it. The Extension's source is not published, and no rights beyond this license are granted.

3. Your responsibilities

The Extension shows you traffic that routinely contains secrets: session cookies, authorization tokens, form data. You are responsible for what you do with it. In particular:

• Use the Extension only on browsers, accounts and systems you are authorized to inspect, and in accordance with your employer's policies where a company machine or network is involved.
• Files you export and requests you copy are yours. Check them before attaching them anywhere; the Extension's masking is a tool, not a guarantee that a file contains no secret.
• Header and block rules change what the browser sends. You are responsible for the effect of the rules you create.
• Do not use the Extension to access, intercept or modify traffic in a way that violates any law or any third party's rights.

4. Privacy

How the Extension and the Website handle data is described in the Privacy Policy, which is part of these terms. The short version: the Extension processes everything on your device and makes no network requests of its own; the Website uses Google Analytics.

5. Third-party services

The Extension is distributed through the Chrome Web Store and Microsoft Edge Add-ons, whose own terms govern installation and updates. The Website is hosted on GitHub Pages, support is provided through GitHub, and the home page embeds a YouTube video that loads when clicked. Each of those services has its own terms and privacy policy, which apply when you use it.

6. Disclaimer of warranties

THE EXTENSION AND THE WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. We do not warrant that the Extension will capture every request, that masking will cover every secret, that it will work with every website, browser version or configuration, that it will be available or error-free, or that defects will be corrected.

7. Limitation of liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, REVENUE OR BUSINESS, ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO THE EXTENSION OR THE WEBSITE, WHETHER IN CONTRACT, TORT (INCLUDING NEGLIGENCE) OR OTHERWISE, EVEN IF ADVISED OF THE POSSIBILITY OF SUCH DAMAGES. This includes damage caused by a secret that reached a third party through a file you exported, and by the effect of a header or block rule you created.

Our total liability for all claims related to the Extension or the Website shall not exceed the greater of the amount you paid us for the Extension in the twelve months before the claim, if any, and ten US dollars (USD 10). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations; there, our liability is limited to the maximum extent the law permits.

8. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify and hold us harmless from claims, damages and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising from your use of the Extension in violation of these terms or of any law, or from data you exported or rules you created.

9. Changes to the Extension and to these terms

We may change, limit or discontinue the Extension or any feature at any time. We may update these terms; the effective date at the top changes when we do, and continued use after a change means you accept it. The Website always shows the current version.

10. Termination

You may stop using the Extension at any time by uninstalling it, which also removes its local storage. We may terminate or suspend your license if you breach these terms. Sections 3, 6, 7, 8 and 11 survive termination.

11. Governing law and disputes

Before starting any formal proceeding, you agree to raise the matter with us through the contact below and to attempt an informal resolution for at least 30 days. These terms are governed by the laws of Vietnam, without regard to conflict-of-law principles, and any proceeding arising from them shall be brought in the courts of Vietnam. Where the law of your place of residence grants you protections that cannot be waived by agreement, those protections apply.

12. General

If any provision of these terms is held unenforceable, the rest remain in effect. These terms, with the Privacy Policy, are the entire agreement between you and us about the Extension and the Website. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver of it.
